The Parting: Turnaround

In the following days, Bob pondered his decisions and what he had been doing in his life and relationship with Samantha.  Then he decided to speak to God about it all.  He apologized for disobeying His word.  He promised to live his life differently in the future.  He said he would not plead for anything.  Whatever happened, he would accept.  Though he didn’t say it, Bob determined in his heart that he would savor any punishment that would come his way.

Bob also decided that he would commit to his relationship with Samantha.  He realized he took her for granted.  He remembered his dad telling him how important it was to make your special lady feel special.  She must know she was special.  There must be no doubt.  He failed.  He determined that when Samantha returned, he would tell her these things.  She would know she was special to him.  She would know she was the apple of his eye.

Once praying was done, he decided he needed to read the bible.  What should he read?  He turned to 2 Timothy 2:13.

If we are faithless, he remains faithful— for he cannot deny himself.

Bob realized that though he didn’t hold up his end to God and Samantha or himself, God remained faithful.  Tears welled up in his eyes.  Again, he apologized and thanked God for the forgiveness He readily gives.

Bob couldn’t help but think these thoughts:  Where would we be without a God that understands us?  He realized we could never live the standards He set so He sent His son to live the life of every man.  He chose to be poor.  He lived the life of an ordinary person.  He was no one special until He began His ministry.  Is there anyone Jesus could not identify with?  The weak and oppressed he came to rescue.  The outcast, the beggar, the blind and needy are His.  He was humble.  He didn’t demand worship.

The thoughts flooded his mind in torrents.  It was like taking in a magnificent sunset.  There really isn’t time to study each facet but the whole is beautiful and leaves a lasting impression.  So it was with the thoughts of God.  Bob believed God forgave him and it filled him with gratitude.  Yes, he would live his life differently and he believed he and Samantha would have a wonderful life together.

He Facetimed with his father later that night and told him a little of what was going on.  He couldn’t tell him he had been sleeping with Samantha.  He was still ashamed to think about it.  He did state his desire to have a deeper relationship and, maybe seriously consider marriage.  Matthew was overjoyed.  He just smiled at the screen and said, “You know how I feel about that girl.  I think you two will make a good couple.”

“Yeah I know, dad.”  Bob replied with a grin.
